Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced some key measures. They are as follows:
1. New Innovation Stream under the International Mobility Program
This innovation stream is designed to attract talented tech individuals to Canada. This stream will be exempt from Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) process which will help workers and allows employers to hire talented techies.
IRCC is considering 2 options within this stream:
-
- Employer-specific work permits for up to 5 years for workers who are destined to work for companies recognized by the Canadian government which contributes to Canada’s Industrial Innovation goals.
-
- 5-year open work permits for highly skilled workers in selected in-demand occupations.
2. Attracting Digital Nomads to Canada:
This is a great move by the Canadian government. It shows how it thinks ahead of other nations. Considering the increasing demand for remote work, the IRCC , came up with a Digital Nomad strategy which allows foreign remote workers to come and work in Canada.
Canada is establishing itself as a destination for digital nomads, by collaborating with private and public partners.
The Foreign nationals can come and be in Canada for 6 months with Digital Nomad Visa.
3. Express Entry STEM-specific withdraws:
The Express Entry program introduced the STEM-specific draw in order to further support the recruitment of skilled individuals.
This draw will select candidates who are experts in Technology, Mathematics, Science, Engineering, Agriculture, and Healthcare.
4. Improving Existing Programs:
Global Skills Strategy: This strategy helps Canadian employers get access to highly skilled talent from across the world. Both Employment and Social Development Canada and IRCC is meeting a 14 day standard for processing Global Talent Stream LMIAs and work permit applications under this Global Skills Strategy (GTS).
Start-up Visa Program: This program includes the following:
-
- Applicants can now apply for a 3-year work permit instead of 1 year
-
- 3-year open work permit is now available for each member of the entrepreneurial team instead of only essential members
-
- Open work permit instead of one that limits them to work for their own start-up
-
- Canada is now prioritizing applications supported by venture capitals, angel investors, and business incubators that have committed capital, along with applicants supported by business incubators who are members of Canada’s Tech Network.
Canada’s Tech Talent Strategy shows the country’s commitment to developing its Tech industry and positioning itself as a Global leader in Innovation. By expanding the Global Talent stream, fast tracking work permit processing, and supporting startups, Canada is creating an environment where professionals from across the globe can contribute to its economic growth.
If you are a tech professional looking to take your career to new heights, Canada’s Tech Talent Strategy offers a wealth of opportunities and benefits. This is a good opportunity for tech professionals to move to Canada.
