Recently, the government of Hong Kong announced that it will ease the immigration rules to address the shortage of workers in the financial hub.
In 2024, the government has decided to welcome a 9.3% increase in foreign workers from last year. Hence, they decided to ease their entry rules to attract more people to work in their country.
Starting from construction to aviation, the government has decided to recruit thousands of foreign workers in sectors that lack enough labor.
Post-pandemic, the country has been struggling to meet demand due to the labor shortage.
So with this change in the immigration rules, the government is planning to recruit 12,000 people for construction and 6,300 people for the aviation industry.

The Hong Kong QMAS (Quality Migrant Admission Scheme) Objective:
The objective of this scheme is to attract skilled workers to move to Hong Kong and develop their economy.
Applicants must fulfill certain requirements before they can be awarded points under one of the two points-based tests namely, the General Points Test and Achievement Points Based Test.
However, Successful applicants don’t require a secured offer letter of local employment before moving to Hong Kong for work.
If your application is selected after everything, then you can take your partner(irrespective of sex) and unmarried dependent children under the age of 18.
Important Note: This scheme does not apply to people from Afghanistan, Cuba, Laos, Korea (Democratic People’s Republic of), Nepal, and Vietnam nations.

The Hong Kong Quality Migrant Admission Scheme Prerequisites:
People who are planning to move to Hong Kong as job seekers must fulfill the below prerequisites.

- He or she should be at least 18 years of age.

- Good communication skills, both spoken and written, in English or Chinese

- The applicant must have a good educational background, basically a first degree from a recognized university or a tertiary educational institution.

- You must prove your good character by providing a certificate and should not be involved in any illegal activities. Also, you should not have adverse immigration records in Hong Kong or anywhere else.

- You must have adequate funds to stay in Hong Kong to manage yourself and your dependents, if any.
If you fail to fulfill any of the prerequisites, your application will not be processed further and will be refused immediately.
Once, you meet all the prerequisites, you are now allowed to take a points-based test.
A minimum passing mark is set under the General Points Test.
If you opted for an Achievement-based point test, then check whether your credentials met the minimum passing mark.
Selection exercises will be done regularly, and applicants who satisfy both prerequisites and the minimum passing marks will be ranked according to their achieved scores.
High-scoring applicants will be shortlisted further.
Successful applicants will be issued with a visa or entry permit (in the form of an “e-Visa”) under the Scheme for staying in Hong Kong.
